AutoDate-100 Benchmark

We're developing an open benchmark for evaluating photo dating systems. The benchmark will include:

100 photographs with verified ground truth dates
Distribution across 7 decades (1950s-2020s)
Variety of evidence types (technological, biometric, contextual)
Explicit tolerance bounds per photograph
Standardized evaluation metrics

Evaluation Metrics

Metric	Description
Accuracy@N	Percentage of photos dated within ±N years
MAE	Mean Absolute Error in years
ECE	Expected Calibration Error (confidence alignment)
Coverage	Percentage of photos with predictions (vs "unknown")

We invite the research community to participate. Our goal is advancing the state of the art in digital preservation.

API Access

Our API is currently in private beta. We're working with select partners to refine the interface before public release.

Planned Endpoints

POST /api/v1/analyze
    - Full photo analysis (date, faces, context)
    - Returns confidence intervals and evidence

POST /api/v1/faces/detect
    - Face detection and embedding generation
    - Returns bounding boxes and face IDs

POST /api/v1/faces/search
    - Search for matching faces in a collection
    - Returns similarity scores

POST /api/v1/temporal/estimate
    - Temporal inference only
    - Returns probability distribution over years
